8th Grade Boys Basketball
The 8th Grade boys basketball team once again brought home a championship plaque from another basketball tournament.  The talented group competed in the Comanche tournament against Glen Rose, Brownwood A, and Comanche teams.  This group has been undefeated for both the 7th and 8th grade years in basketball.  Please pat these boys on the back as they have worked hard all year.  The players include Thomas Hurtado, Mason Burkey, Cord Norris, Kyle Boyet, Chase Taylor, Sean Dority, Hunter Kubala, Dakota Taylor, Kyle Builta, Gino Marks, Alan Edgar, and Coach Mike Cook.
8th Grade Boys Basketball

Bangs JH basketball tournament January 14, 2012

Coleman 8th grade   60   Goldthwaite   22

In their first game, the boys took charge early and went on to a 60-22 win over the team from Goldthwaite. As the game was never in doubt, it allowed every member of the team to get a lot of playing time on the floor. It also allowed the boys to work on some different things that would be invaluable in the championship game. Scoring for Coleman were:

Kyle Boyet-   6
Mason Burkey-   7
Chase Taylor-   10
Cord Norris-   17
Thomas Hurtado-   20

Coleman 8th grade   46   Brady   29

In the championship game, the boys met up with a team from Brady that had never lost a basketball game going back to their 5th and 6th grade years playing tournaments during the summer. They have a very good team and had not been challenged in any game the last two years. The first quarter was tied 9-9, but a 20-7 run by the Bluecats in the 2nd quarter turned out to be too much for the Bulldogs to overcome. The boys were able to make some adjustments and changes which allowed them to take Brady out of their game of tight man to man and fast break. The boys really stepped it up and feel like the close game against Dublin allowed them to be more prepared for a good team like Brady than they were. Cord Norris and Thomas Hurtado had especially good games and were named to the All-tournament team, but all the boys brought their A game and this win a TEAM win. Scoring for the Bluecats were:

Chase Taylor-   2
Kyle Boyet-   4
Mason Burkey-   10
Cord Norris-   14
Thomas Hurtado-   16
